The Supreme Court today has made another move to choke the minority, and promote white supremacy. It has decided to uphold voter initiative to prohibit affirmative action programs… Like Prop 8, the majority is deciding what minority rights are. Is access to education a right? As manual labor becomes replaced by machines at a startling rate, higher education is becoming a must for access to basic needs like housing and food. The UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights thinks education is a basic right. In Article 13, it states that “higher education shall be made equally accessible to all, on the basis of capacity, by every appropriate means, and in particular by the progressive introduction of free education”.
What I find interesting, and by that I mean disgusting, is that legacies remain intact. What is a legacy? It is the practice of a college admitting you because your mommy, daddy, or grand pappy attended the school. They are alive and well, and have served as preferential treatment for white people since the beginning of American education. How much of an advantage?
A HUGE ONE.
Legacy Kids have An Admission Advantage
In the article linked above, it is proven in studies to be a ridiculous advantage.
A study by Princeton’s Thomas Espenshade has found that the legacy advantage is so big in fact that it is the equivalent of a 160 point difference on the SAT
Admission Preferences at Elite Universities Study
Well why cant black kids just score higher? What are minority problems with tests? Here is some information to chew on before you continue with that ignorant question:
Harold Berlak on hidden biases.
Berlak on Institutional Racism.
The deck is stacked against minority students in the testing. These test scores influence college admissions. The admissions officer is not allowed to consider disadvatged students of color, as a factor in admission, but is allowed to give preference to white students who happen to have a parent that attended the university?
This is equal protection?
Supreme Court FAIL
Do not sleep. Corporations are people, women must have probes shoved up them before they can control their own bodies, and brown folk cant go to college…
Martin Niemoeller famously wrote:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.
Fight. Keep on Fighting. They will come for you, if you do not fight for me.
